The patination process is a precision technique, like a gradual sculpting with dyes and waxes to reveal the very soul of Venezia leather. Our palette spans over 60 shades, but the exact finish is unique to each client, reflecting his preferences and the artisan’s deftness.
The ritual begins with a thorough cleaning to extract any waxes from the leather and restore it to its purest state. Then the artisan applies a smoke treatment that stains the seams, eyelets and outlines of the shoe. A "heart colour" of the client’s choice comes next. The colourist works it in by alternating coats of water and pigmented wax, building up colour whose sheerness and vividness vary across the shoe. Lastly, a glazing adds depth and light – the final signature of the patina.
A patina is as much about nourishing the leather as bringing out its beautiful depths. We recommend you make it a ritual, once a year, to entrust your shoes to our expert hands. We’ll apply a new patina to protect your shoes and make them look as good as new.
