In 2023 the Maison joined forces with the mission-driven company Le Printemps des Terres to actively contribute to carbon capture and biodiversity preservation. Under this partnership, Berluti has funded three agroforestry projects that help mitigate climate change in the Calvados, Gers and Burgundy regions. Over 10 hectares of land have been restored in total, with 20 linear kilometres of hedgerows and just over 10,000 trees planted – this will add up to more than 2,200 tonnes of CO₂ sequestered over fifteen years.
The project carries the Low Carbon Hedges label conferred by France’s Ministry of Ecological Transition and illustrates the Maison’s ambition to move beyond emissions reduction and take tangible action to protect the natural world by restoring soils, fostering biodiversity, and regenerating productive, life-sustaining landscapes. It also aims to support farmers in transitioning to agroecological practices by investing in hedgerows, while delivering meaningful social benefits for local communities.
Berluti is also involved in combating deforestation and preserving the forests that are so vital to the natural balance of things. Wood is central to our Maison's world – from the lasts we make our bespoke shoes on, to our store designs – and as such, it’s a material we value especially highly.
We already source 98% of our wood from sustainably managed forests, and on top of that we're partnering with Reforest’Action to support a conservation project covering 47,000 hectares of tropical rainforest in the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve on the island of Borneo.
