Our Materials

From ethically sourced leathers to fully traceable textile fibres, the Maison selects premium certified materials produced through supply chains that safeguard biodiversity and regenerate natural ecosystems.

Most of the materials we use to craft Berluti products are sourced from the living world, whether from the animal, plant or mineral realm. For us, the act of creation is also one of preservation, and the Maison undertakes to work with responsible supply chains that help regenerate biodiversity and uphold full material traceability. More than 92% of our key materials (leather, wool, cashmere, viscose, silk, cotton, exotic leathers, wood and wood-based materials) currently meet the most stringent environmental and social standards* and we aim for that figure to reach 100% by 2026.

Traceable, Certified Materials:

Cowhide and sheepskin: 96% are sourced from LWG (Leather Working Group) Silver- or Gold-certified tanneries, which guarantees sustainable leather production*, rigorous water management and complete traceability.

Exotic leathers: 98% comply with standards* that preserve species, safeguard animal welfare, respect local communities and protect the environment.

Wool and cashmere: 100% of wool and 79% of cashmere is sourced from responsible breeders* or contains a proportion of recycled material, supporting the reuse of natural fibres.

Viscose: 100% originates from sustainably managed forests, ensuring complete traceability and the renewal of the forests from which the wood pulp is derived.

Cotton: 96% is sourced from organic and/or recycled channels*, ensuring that production is more respectful of the land and growers.

Wood and derivatives: 98% comes from certified forests*, helping combat deforestation and preserve ecosystems. (* Data from October 2025).

This form of procurement safeguards the rights of workers throughout the supply chain, encourages environmentally sound practices, and ensures complete traceability throughout the chain of production. To date, 89% of our suppliers have signed the 2023 Product Restricted Substances List, accounting for 96%* of our key materials by value (based on December 2024 figures). This represents significant progress toward safer, cleaner, and more environmentally responsible production.

Reducing our Chemical Footprint:

Berluti is also committed to eliminating hazardous chemicals from all of its supply chains. As a member of the ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) programme, our parent company LVMH is actively working to eradicate all harmful chemical discharges associated with textile and leather production.

Since 2023, all Berluti’s key suppliers must keep hazardous chemical levels within ZDHC limits for at least 50% of the restricted substances. To date, 89% of them have signed the 2023 Product Restricted Substances List, accounting for 96%* of our key materials by value (based on December 2024 figures). This represents significant progress toward safer, cleaner, and more environmentally responsible production.
