socks be?
To wear socks low or high,
that is the question!
When it comes to dress socks, there are primarily two sorts: the high sock, traditionally called full-calf, which stops just below the knee (50 cm), and the low sock, known as the mid-calf.
As far as style is concerned, full-calf socks are a must with a suit or formal outfit: the rules of traditional elegance make it clear that your calves should never show, even when you are seated. To coordinate your socks with your ensemble, the general guideline is to consider the sock an extension of the leg, rather than of the foot, so it is best to match your socks to your suit rather than to your shoe, which also smartly sets off your shoes. But you can decide to don a daring colour statement. The Berluti colour palette can be bold: plum, red, aubergine, khaki, purple, burgundy – what could be chicer than a pair of coloured socks with a classic grey or navy blue suit?
Mid-calf socks, on the other hand, are fine with more casual outfits: jeans, skinny pants, chinos, and worn with sneakers or Andy loafers. For this look, the pants should not be too short, so as not to break the visual line with a glimpse of calf, even when seated. Here, too, anything goes in terms of colour: khaki and deep blue, grey and acid green, black and plum – and two-tone socks look superb with a pair of sneakers.
