Berluti presents its new line, The Essentials
A brand new ready-to-wear line channels the quintessential wardrobe of the Berluti man with a timeless, elegant, contemporary style.
Introducing The Essentials, a new permanent line of ready-to-wear, shoes and leather goods highlighting Berluti’s emblematic pieces. Inspired by Berluti’s heritage and pared-down take on luxury, this collection of modern classics and elevated basics comprises all the must-have pieces that every man’s wardrobe should have, and the ones Berluti clients wear on their day-to-day lives. Distilled through Creative Director Kris Van Assche’s vision, the line is as timeless as it is unapologetically modern, and works on its own as much as it complements the rest of the Maison’s collection.
From minimal, straight-cut wool coats to hooded patinated leather jackets and blousons, outerwear is functional and versatile. A nylon B-Way jacket is printed with an all-over Berluti logo and crest motif. Alessandro suits are sleek, with tapered trousers and single-breasted jackets, and stand as the ultimate day-to-night outfit. Trousers are diverse and include brut blue and black denim jeans with selvedge and an inner embroidered Berluti logo, as well as tapered joggers with a drawstring waistband. Second skin turtleneck tops are worn under classic cotton poplin shirts, a double-face zipped wool hoodie and a sweatshirt complete with a bonded leather crest. Berluti’s iconic Scritto motif - originally created by Olga Berluti as an homage to the art of calligraphy - makes an appearance in a virgin wool sweater.
From this season, some of the ready-to-wear pieces in The Essentials will be available in smaller sizes so as to give women the possibility of picking and choosing their favourite pieces from the Berluti man’s wardrobe.
Shoes are pure Berluti: Alessandro Démesure - the Maison’s very first lace-up shoe, originally designed by Alessandro Berluti in 1895 - is made from a single piece of Nero Grigio patinated Venezia leather and has no visible seams. Andy - Berluti’s most iconic loafer, created in 1962 by Olga Berluti especially for Andy Warhol - is complete with a trademark Venezia TDM Intenso patina.
Both emblematic models are joined by Equilibre, a brand new formal shoe line distilling Berluti’s DNA and artisanal know-how: a Goodyear construction with hidden welt stitching, bootmaker studs and finishings and a leather outsole takes on a classic lace-up Oxford and a Monk shoe. Equilibre is also Berluti’s first formal shoe line integrating an anatomical concept. Using the same foot volume approach as in Bespoke shoes, the leather insole supports the natural anatomy of the foot thanks to a lightly rounded shape on the heel and the sides, making it a uniquely comfortable formal shoe.
Pure lines are also explored in a casual way through the Stellar sneaker, unique in its bottier attitude, its minimalist details and its pure white tone.
Taking over bags and belts, the Signature canvas motif takes over the Passenger Tote and the Rider cross body bag. A true Berluti icon, patinable Venezia leather is also present in the Un Jour Gulliver messenger bag. Compact and timeless, it is complete with an embossed Scritto Swift detail.
The Essentials will be available at Berluti stores from March 2021. The collection will be permanent and progressively completed, season after season, with subsequent drops.
